A JOURNEY THROUGH NEW ORLEANS MUSIC, DANCE, AND PARADING CULTURE
A two-part sequence of audience engaging music and dance performances that escalate in energy and participation to showcase the evolution of New Orleans second-line parades and Carnival music.
The first act introduces the second-line tradition with mini-parades and interactive performances through the audience. The narrative presents the evolution of second-line parade music, dance, and community traditions from early New Orleans Jazz Funerals to S&P Clubs, youth initiatives, and modern day culture.
The second act engages the audience with the percussive rhythms and call-response songs of Mardi Gras Indians. The narrative explores how the perseverance of African and Native American tribal traditions have shaped New Orleans music and culture from Congo Square, to Carnival Masking rituals and popular music.
Presenting sponsors will be announced on March 7th, 2020 at the 2nd Annual NOLA Brass Fest.
