We’re paving the way for New Orleans musicians, dancers, educators, and cultural ambassadors to share the magic of New Orleans music and the second-line parade tradition.
Second-line inspired music and dance lessons will be shared with instructors and schools to organize and prepare youth artists for the unique opportunity to participate in the downtown parade. The days preceding the annual parade will offer the opportunity for master classes, workshops, guest speakers, and cultural presentations for students.
The events and educational programs help preserve the art of jazz and second-line culture by taking younger generations beyond the textbooks and lessons. It physically engages them in the exciting traditions, celebrations, and parade culture of New Orleans. It’s also a great opportunity for youth groups from New Orleans to explore new cities and cultures.
The promotional shows and parades during “Jazz Crawl Weekend” offer a great opportunity for local artists to experience the rhythm and beat of a New Orleans second-line parade. It’s also a chance for New Orleans artists to see how others are interpreting the brass sound across the country.
Exploring and enjoying the different cities is one of the most meaningful aspects of the Jazz Crawl’s cultural exchange mission. The artists and youth groups that participate from New Orleans will be treated to entertainment and tours of the hosting city. An annual parade and reception in New Orleans will bring all Jazz Crawl artists and ambassadors together for a big celebration.
